What We Do

Levantamos:  The Center for Afro-Brazilian─American Cooperation is a non-profit corporation founded in January 2004 with the vision of building sustainable relationships between Afro-Brazilians in Brazil and Americans to affect profound educational, social and economic change.

The organization’s mission is to develop partnerships between Americans and Afro-Brazilians focused on eliminating inequality and to provide technical and financial assistance to empower Afro-Brazilian community-based organizations.  Levantamos does this by

Generating financial resources for grass roots community organizations based in Brazil focused on Afro-Brazilians;
Developing, in partnership with Brazilians, community based programs in Brazil focused on citizenship, education, health, and economic development;
Developing programs in the United States to engage and educate North Americans about the history, culture, and conditions of Afro-Brazilians in Brazil; and,
Facilitating exchanges for educational, social, cultural, and economic exchanges between Afro-Brazilians and African Americans.
